Electrospinning

Although the term electrospinning is derived from electrostatic spinning and has been used since 1994, the main idea belongs to 80 years ago. The electrospinning process as a static method was first observed by Riley in 1897, then studied in detail by Zeleni in 1914, and finally recorded in 1934 by Fermhals. In this method, after the electric field (electrostatic forces) overcomes the surface tension of the charged solution, a continuous jet of solution forms and fly to collector (electrode) after evaporation of solvent. In this process, several parameters such as environmental parameters (temperature, pressure, humidity, etc.), device (voltage, distance between the needle and the collector, flow rate, etc.), and the polymer solution (Solution concentration, solvent type, dielectric constant, etc.) affect the structure and morphology of polymer fibers. The appropriate flexibility of this method has caused the scaffolds made by electrospinning method to show potentials for different applications.
